Larry Gelbart Quote

Veteran TV Writer (MASH, Your Show of Shows) discusses how television changed so quickly in the early days of the form.

“When television first appeared in homes, they were very expensive appliances, and very expensive appliances are bought by wealthy, well-educated people. So when we started, we had a very sophisticated audience. As the price of televisions went down, so did the IQ of the audience. We [Your Show of Shows] were eventually knocked off the air by the Lawrence Welk Show.”
