As a radio host, actor, interviewer, or columnist, Russell Bowers and his work have been in front of audiences for over 25 years. Russell’s resumé boasts over 10,000 interviews including news makers, politicians, artists, and ordinary people from one end of Canada to the other and beyond.
He has consistently improved ratings on every radio show he’s hosted in several markets and audience sizes. According to the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement, between 2003 and 2008 when Russell hosted Daybreak North, the CBC Radio program moved from sixth place to a tie for first. Since 2008, BBM results revealed a 20-25% increase in audience share for Russell’s Daybreak Alberta show with Russell maintaining a #1 ranking over the last 3 years. In the Edmonton market alone, audience share increased by 116%.  The February 2012 book posted a share of 22.9%, which was a record high for CBC Alberta.
As an actor, Russell has worked on stages across the country, winning Best Supporting Actor for his work in “ART” at the Newfoundland & Labrador Drama Festival. He has acted with Shakespeare By the SeaDirty Laundry ImprovHarbour Theatre, and St. John’s Players.
In hosting live events, Russell has entertained audiences at the Inaugural Calgary Poet Laureate ShowcaseStuart McLean‘s Vinyl CafeFestival 5, the Alberta Magazine Publishers Awards, and WordFest. He’s conducted compelling onstage interviews with with people as diverse as Scott Turow, acclaimed author of Presumed Innocent; children’s writer Valerie Sherrard; and the justice activist and former judge, John Reilly.
In 2001, Russell won a Newfoundland & Labrador Music Industry Award for Heritage Recording of the Year after producing a posthumous compilation for the folk musician Harry Hibbs. He has brought his skills as an audio producer to recording projects with David Francey, the Juno Award winning folk singer; Ron Hynes, the songwriting legend; and Evelyn Parry, Toronto singer/songwriter as well as producing recordings the comedians Bowser & Blue and Donovan Deschner. He has also provided his background in music as a volunteer with CARAS/the Juno Awards, the East Coast Music Awards, and the Polaris Music Prize.
Russell has also organized and hosted fundraisers for organizations including The Red CrossBig Brothers/Big SistersPlaywrights Atlantic, and the Mustard Seed, bringing his warmth and intimacy to crowds ranging from stadiums of 8,000 people to social events for a few hundred.  Russell’s efforts have played an integral part in raising over $400,000 for charitable organizations.
